Malignant Mesothelioma Causes

What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma and its relationship with exposure to asbestos.
When I was younger I was doing construction work to put myself through collage, and every so often I had to demolish and clean out dirty rooms before starting the actual work and never really gave any thought about the health risk that can affect many who work in such enviroments. After many years, I started hearing about mesothelioma cancer, and what caused it. When I heard how certain jobs or how living in an asbestos infected home can cause mesothelioma, I became worried, so I decided to share some things I have learned over the years about mesothothlioma.
What is mesothelioma? or "mesothelioma pleural" " mesothelioma peritoneal"
Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that originates in the mesothelium; the membrane that covers and protects most of the body's internal organs. The mesothelium is composed of two layers. One that surrounds the organ itself and the other which forms a coating inside of it. Between these two layers, it normally produces a small amount of fluid to lubricate the movement which protects organs. When normal cells of the mesothelium get out of control and multiply rapidly it is called mesothelioma. The most common form of mesothelioma is mesothelioma "pleural" which originates in the lining of the lungs. Other forms are "Peritoneal Mesothelioma, which affect the lining of the abdominal cavity and, mesothelioma " pericardial ", which affect the lining of the heart.
Causes of mesothelioma? asbestos and mesothelioma
The causes of Mesothelioma is almost always provoked by exposure to asbestos fibre. Many people have been exposed to mesothelioma in military life as well and others due to their work environment, yet others through contact with exposed workers. Because of its latency, cancer may not appear for 20-50 years and beyond, after exposure.
Mesothelioma cases.
It is expected that the incidences of mesothelioma in the United States or the world in general could reach a peak by 2020. There are statistics on every mesothlelioma case currently available from country to country and can be found anywhere on the internet .
Who is at risk of developing mesothelioma?
Those who worked in direct contact with asbestos or other products have an increased risk of developing mesothelioma however, mesothelioma has been observed in some individuals whose exposure was minimal.
Among the jobs at high risk of developing mesothelioma include:
.Workers of metal plates (including shipbuilding)
.Vehicle manufacturers (including rail vehicles)
.Plumbers
.Gas systems installers
.Carpenters
.Electricians
.Construction workers
.Plasterer
.Builders
.Jack of all trades workers
.Painters
.Sheet metal workers
.Welders
What types of products generally contain asbestos?
The following products contain asbestos but generally in different concentrations. This list is not comprehensive and is intended only as general reference.
.CAUSE OF MESOTHELIOMA
.Upholstery, those who preform or used thermal insulation of pipes and boilers
.Asbestos in spray used as fire protection in pipelines, fire in curtain walls, wall panels, in old lofts, in the panels of the ceiling and around steel structures
.Insulating boards used for fire protection, thermal insulation, partitions and pipelines
.Asbestos coatings used for filling gaps in ceiling for fire protection
.Double-pressed cardboard, paper and paper products used for the insulation of electrical equipment; Asbestos paper can also be used as fire-retardant coating on wood fibre panels
.The asbestos-cement products, corrugated sheets and plates that are used for roofing or walls; cement products also used in the gutters, downspouts and water tanks
.Structured coatings (such as the Artex)
.Roofing material made of bitumen
.Thermoplastic tiles or viny
It seems that asbestos and mesothelioma are related and precaution should be always considered.

Great hub, very informative. I live in one of the asbestos hot spots and see asbestosis and meso all around us here thanks to mining vermiculite. Very sad.
Really sad I imagine it would be a slow and horrible death. Would that include something like fiberglass that has been used so much in insulating and even curtains? I helped my dad wrap some pipes years ago with that and it got all in my eyes and skin, it was horrible, I couldn't even walk close to fiberglass curtains, it was like my body drew it like a magnet and I would start stinging and itching. Hope they stopped making them, haven't seen any in years.
Great article thanks i really needed this information it helped alot thanks
The first time i heard of this.
Interesting info Jang! In my medical practice and as an (MD)specializing mostly with cancer patients, i believe the info you just provided should be made available to everyone. Would you mind if i made reference to your article? Is there a way we can speak directly or by email?

Thanks for this Hub. I also wrote a hub on this topic-after one of my friends died of it and others are sick from it. Also I know so many people who have been exposed to asbestos.Your hub is very good. Is there some way we could connect our two hubs? Or refer to each other's hubs.
